The Anatomical Pathology Department

Since 2012, the Pathology Laboratory at Augusta Victoria Hospital has played a vital role in accurately diagnosing various types of tumors that better guide patient treatment. Anatomical pathology is the medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis of disease through the examination of organs, tissues, and cells.

Using the most modern tools and equipment available, we adhere to international standards and guidelines from the College of American Pathologists to ensure the highest levels of quality and accuracy. Our department uses a variety of techniques, including microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and molecular testing, to accurately diagnose diseases and provide important information to healthcare providers. Moreover, our diagnostic services include pathological and cytological examinations, histopathological examinations, immunochemical stains, and flow cytometry for blood and bone marrow tumors. These tests are crucial for guiding immunotherapy or targeted therapy for many cancers, and are rare services in Palestine.

In addition to serving patients at Augusta Victoria Hospital, we offer consultations and diagnostic services to hospitals throughout the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem. We also review diagnoses of patients referred to AVH from other hospitals, assist local universities in oncology research, and participate in the training of resident physicians.

Our team is composed of 8 skilled professionals, including two consultant pathologists, one pathologist, four pathology technicians, and a medical secretary. We conduct at least 3,000 examinations annually, and are proud to have become a vital resource for the Palestinian medical community.
